Adding Roles

When I search the name of the person in the modal window it comes up below when trying to add a role (MOD or VIP) once I click on their username the name doesn’t fill the box above and allow me to assign a role. Is there some limitation? I am trying to setup my stream before I go live. I cannot add any roles.
